Thermador range design and construction
Thermador's ranges come in two families, Pro Harmony and Pro Grand, in gas, dual-fuel and induction, with Pro Grand reaching 60 inches. Plenty include a griddle or an electric grill, each controlled separately. Gas ovens light with a hot-surface igniter in series with a safety valve, and an aging igniter glows without opening the valve fully, so the oven is slow to light or never does. Dual-fuel models swap in an electric oven with separate bake, broil and convection elements. Some include a steam oven or warming drawer. These ranges are heavy and fitted tight; pulling one out takes two people and floor protection, and afterward we reattach the anti-tip bracket and check the gas fitting for leaks.

A hot-surface igniter has to reach a certain current before the gas valve opens. With age it keeps glowing but draws less, so the valve opens late or stays shut. We measure the draw and replace the igniter when it's weak.
