In practice that means two kinds of Thermador: products that sit on shared BSH platforms, dishwashers above all, and the pro ranges and rangetops with burner and ignition designs of their own. Which Thermador Appliance Needs Work?
The FD number decides the part
Every Thermador rating label carries a model number and an FD number. The FD is a production code, and BSH changes parts within the same model when the FD changes. Ordering by model alone is how the wrong board or pump shows up.
On dishwashers the label is on the door edge; on ranges, look behind the kick panel or inside the oven door frame. We record both numbers at the diagnosis, and a photo sent ahead often saves a trip.
Burners that are supposed to click
Thermador's star-shaped burner fits more port length around its edge than a round burner of the same size, so the flame spreads further under a pan. One port packed with grease leaves an obvious gap in the star.
On burners with ExtraLow, the flame cycles off and relights to hold a very low simmer, and the igniter ticks each time. That is the design working. It's a fault when the burner fails to relight, or when ticking continues after the knob is turned off.
Package kitchens and Florida air
Thermador is often bought as a full suite: range or rangetop, wall ovens, refrigerator and freezer columns, a dishwasher. In South Tampa remodels, on Davis Islands and in the larger houses of Westchase and FishHawk, the pieces were installed together and tend to wear on a similar timeline.
Humidity is the local factor. Column refrigerators work harder when warm, damp air sneaks past a tired gasket, and wine units sweat on the glass. Lightning season adds a reason to check power before condemning an expensive board.

- Refrigerators: Freedom Collection columns plus built-in French-door and bottom-freezer models. Condenser airflow, fans, defrost faults, ice makers and heavy panel doors that stop sealing.
- Dishwashers: Star Sapphire, Emerald and Topaz models on BSH's dishwasher platform. Drain pumps, heater pumps, leak-float shutdowns and broken door hinge springs or cables.

Thermador parts ship from BSH's North American parts operation. Burner caps and bases, igniters, dishwasher pumps and everyday oven elements tend to arrive quickly. Electronics for the columns, induction boards, steam oven assemblies and cosmetic pieces for older Pro ranges are slower, and some have been superseded by revised versions. We write down the model and FD number while diagnosing and tell you how long the part will take before anything is ordered.

On an ExtraLow burner, no. It keeps a very gentle simmer by cycling the flame, and the igniter fires on every relight. We'd want to look at it if the burner doesn't relight, or if it keeps ticking with the knob off.
They share BSH's dishwasher platform, so pumps, heaters, sensors and failure patterns often match Bosch models of the same generation. Racks, features and trim differ. The overlap usually helps with parts.
