Fisher & Paykel Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals

Fisher & Paykel began in New Zealand and has belonged to Haier since 2012, though Auckland is still home base. We have no tie to either company and aren't an authorized service center, so a unit inside its warranty period goes to Fisher & Paykel first. Once that coverage is behind you, we come out, diagnose the machine where it stands, tell you what broke and give you a price before anything is touched.

Straight answers
If an older unit isn't worth the money to fix, we say so plainly and show you which part gave out.
Homes closed for months
Back after a season away? Run water through the lines and give the fridge a day before judging it, and tell us how long the house sat closed.
Storm season
An appliance that sat in floodwater stays unplugged until it's inspected. Generators belong outside, well away from doors and windows.
Condos & gated communities
High-rises Downtown or on Bayshore, HOA gates in Westchase or New Tampa: put the gate code, elevator rules or guest parking spot in your notes.
Hot garages
A second fridge or chest freezer in a summer garage may cycle nonstop and still run warm. Compare the garage to the ambient range in the owner's manual before calling it broken.
Sweating doors
Muggy air shows up as beads on the door edge and wet gaskets. A tired seal, or an energy-saver setting that switches off the door heaters, is often behind it.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Tell Us the Symptom

Tell us the appliance, its maker and the symptom. A photo of the model plate saves a step.

02

In-Home Testing

We test the likely parts on site, along with the power, water or venting the appliance depends on.

03

A Price You Approve

We explain what failed and quote the repair. Nothing is done until you agree to the price.

04

Fix and Check

After the repair we test a full cycle and check for leaks, noise or codes before we leave.

Fisher & Paykel

Engineering that doesn't follow the usual pattern

Most appliance brands copy each other's layouts. Fisher & Paykel tends not to. Its dishwasher is a drawer with a lid that drops down to seal it, its SmartDrive washer spins the basket with a motor mounted straight onto the shaft, and its ActiveSmart refrigerator decides when to defrost by watching how often the doors open.

Those choices are the reason a general-purpose repair approach can go wrong on this brand. A part that would be the obvious suspect on another washer or dishwasher may not even exist in a Fisher & Paykel, so the diagnosis starts with what the machine is, not with habit.

From New Zealand to Haier

Auckland is where the company started, and the head office and a good share of the engineering never left. In 2004 it bought DCS, the California maker of professional-style cooking and outdoor grills, and the larger ranges and rangetops it sells here grew out of that purchase.

Haier took control in 2012, which brought a bigger parts and manufacturing base behind the brand. It also means the badge alone tells you little: a ten-year-old Fisher & Paykel and a current one may share hardly a screw, so the model number decides everything we order.

What Florida conditions do to these machines

Integrated refrigerator columns rely on a door panel that seals against the cabinet, and in a Tampa kitchen that leaks warm, damp air through any gap, the result shows up as frost in the freezer and beads of water along the trim. A drifting hinge matters more here than it would in a dry climate.

Electronics are the other concern. SmartDrive washers, induction cooktops and touch-control ovens all run on boards, and a strike near the house during a summer storm can leave one dead or acting oddly. A whole-house or point-of-use surge protector is cheap insurance, but it doesn't make a damaged board come back.

Getting parts

Fisher & Paykel runs its own parts operation for North America, and the routine wear items, such as DishDrawer seals and filters, refrigerator fans and oven elements, usually arrive without much delay. Control boards and trim pieces for older models are less predictable. We look up availability at the diagnosis, so you know the wait before you say yes.

Fisher & Paykel appliance lines

  • Refrigerators: Freestanding ActiveSmart bottom-freezer and French-door models plus panel-ready integrated columns. Fans, sensors, ice makers, defrost faults and sagging door panels lead the list.
  • Washers: Top-loaders and front-loaders, many turned by the belt-free SmartDrive motor. Motor sensing faults, drain pumps, lid or door locks and worn suspension are the usual repairs.
  • Dryers: Vented electric and gas dryers, usually matched to a Fisher & Paykel washer. Overheat fuses, elements, belts, rollers and sensor bars wear out most often.
  • Dishwashers: DishDrawer single and double units, with a smaller number of standard built-ins. Lid seals, filters, pumps, flexing hoses and wiring, and controls fail most.
  • Ovens: Wall ovens, many with pyrolytic cleaning, plus combi-steam and speed ovens. Elements, convection and cooling fans, door locks, sensors and controls are routine work.
  • Microwaves: Built-in microwaves, convection speed ovens and microwave drawers set below a counter. No-heat faults, stuck drawer mechanisms and dead controls are typical.
  • Freezers: Integrated freezer columns and the bottom drawers of ActiveSmart refrigerators. Defrost parts, fans, ice makers, drawer slides and gaskets account for most calls.
  • Cooktops: Gas, induction and radiant glass cooktops, plus gas rangetops. Igniters and spark switches, induction boards and their fans, radiant elements and touch panels make up most calls.
  • Stoves: What owners call a stove here is a freestanding Fisher & Paykel range, gas, electric, induction or dual-fuel. Oven heat, burner lighting and door hardware are common repairs.
  • Ranges: Freestanding and professional-style ranges, the bigger models descended from DCS. Burner ignition, oven igniters, convection motors, oven sensors and control cooling fans are frequent repairs.

Fisher & Paykel parts and sourcing

We order Fisher & Paykel parts by model and serial number from the company's own North American supply and the wholesalers that carry it. Routine items such as DishDrawer seals, filters and pumps, refrigerator fans and oven elements tend to be on the shelf. Boards for older models and parts for early DCS-based cooking can take a while, and if the only option is an equivalent part, we say so before installing it.

FAQ

Fisher & Paykel Repair FAQ

Short answers to what people usually ask before a visit. Anything not covered can go in the notes when you book.

Didn't see your question?

Send us the make, the model tag and what the appliance is doing. Some problems can be narrowed down before anyone drives over; most need hands on the machine.

Haier, since 2012. The company still runs from Auckland, New Zealand, and keeps its own engineering and product lines. Factories are spread across several countries, so for repair purposes the model number, not the country, tells us which parts and service data apply.

Not usually. The top and bottom drawers each have their own pump, heater and control, so the working drawer can often stay in use while the other waits for a part. Some repairs need the shared water supply shut off for a while.

Everyday wear parts for current and recent models generally come quickly, since the maker supplies them in North America. Boards and cosmetic parts for older units can take longer, or be discontinued. You hear the expected wait at the diagnosis, before approving anything.

Contact Fisher & Paykel first. A repair inside the warranty period goes through the maker's own service setup, and outside work could get in the way of that. When the coverage runs out, call us.
