JennAir Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals

JennAir is the luxury label of Whirlpool Corporation, built largely on Whirlpool and KitchenAid platforms with its own styling and a few systems unique to it. We're independent, not part of JennAir's service network, so a unit still under the maker's coverage should go to JennAir first. When that has ended, we come to the house, diagnose the problem and quote the repair before starting.

Tenants & owners
A renter can set up the visit. We report the diagnosis and the quote to whoever owns the appliance, and they sign off before the repair.
Bungalows & older houses
In a pre-war bungalow or an early ranch, a modern appliance may be wired into a much older house. We look at the outlet, supply line and vent along with the unit.
Straight answers
If an older unit isn't worth the money to fix, we say so plainly and show you which part gave out.
Homes closed for months
Back after a season away? Run water through the lines and give the fridge a day before judging it, and tell us how long the house sat closed.
Hot garages
A second fridge or chest freezer in a summer garage may cycle nonstop and still run warm. Compare the garage to the ambient range in the owner's manual before calling it broken.
Sweating doors
Muggy air shows up as beads on the door edge and wet gaskets. A tired seal, or an energy-saver setting that switches off the door heaters, is often behind it.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

Tell us the appliance, its maker and the symptom. A photo of the model plate saves a step.

02

Diagnosis at Home

We test the likely parts on site, along with the power, water or venting the appliance depends on.

03

Quote Before Work

We explain what failed and quote the repair. Nothing is done until you agree to the price.

04

Repair and Test

After the repair we test a full cycle and check for leaks, noise or codes before we leave.

JennAir

From fan maker to downdraft pioneer

Louis Jenn founded the company in Indianapolis in 1947 to make industrial fans. Around 1961 it built one of those fans into a range and produced the first self-ventilating downdraft range, which pulls smoke down through the cooking surface instead of up into a hood.

Maytag bought Jenn-Air in 1982, and Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006. The hyphen was dropped in 2018 when the brand was relaunched. Today's lineup of built-in refrigeration, wall ovens, ranges, cooktops, dishwashers and wine cellars shares many platforms and parts with KitchenAid and Whirlpool.

Downdrafts on a slab

Island downdraft cooktops and ranges were popular in Tampa kitchens built from the 1980s on. With no basement, the duct either runs through the cabinet base to an outside wall or drops into a channel in the slab and emerges outside. That duct is part of the appliance: if the blower sounds strong but smoke still drifts up, the run may be crushed, greasy or blocked at the wall cap.

In a humid climate, a long buried run can also collect condensation and debris, and a flapper at the outside wall that sticks open lets warm, damp air and the occasional insect back into the cabinet.

Working inside finished cabinetry

JennAir refrigerators and panel-ready dishwashers sit flush in custom cabinets, and wall ovens are fastened through their side trim. Plenty of repairs happen from the front, but when a unit has to come out of its opening, we plan the move so panels, stone and tile come through unmarked.

Fix it or replace it

A JennAir built-in is made for its cutout, so replacing one means matching the opening, the panel kit and the trim, and a current model won't always line up with an old space. As long as parts can be had, repair generally wins. Whirlpool's parts business backs the brand well, particularly where a JennAir shares hardware with KitchenAid, and if something has been discontinued or only an equivalent exists, you'll hear it up front.

JennAir appliance lines

  • Refrigerators: Built-in side-by-side, French-door and column refrigerators, plenty of them panel-ready. We mostly see ice maker and water valve trouble, fan and sensor faults, defrost failures and sagging doors.
  • Dishwashers: Whirlpool-platform built-ins, often with a custom front. Clogged filters, pump and fill-valve failures, worn latches and door springs out of balance are the regular calls.
  • Ovens: Single, double and combination wall ovens, mostly convection. Self-clean lock motors, blown thermal fuses, cooling fans, elements, probes and touch controls make up most jobs.
  • Microwaves: Built-in, over-the-range and drawer microwaves, plus speed ovens. No-heat faults, interlock switches, drawer drives and hood blowers are the frequent repairs.
  • Cooktops: Downdraft, gas, radiant and induction cooktops. Weak downdraft blowers and restricted ducts, stuck pop-up vents, spark ignition and induction boards are usual.
  • Wine Coolers: Undercounter wine cellars and full-height wine columns. Zone fans and probes, door gaskets, interior lights and controls account for most visits.
  • Stoves: Owners who say JennAir stove usually mean a freestanding or slide-in range, now and then an older downdraft. Ignition, elements, probes and vent blowers top the list.
  • Ranges: Pro-style gas, dual-fuel and induction ranges, along with older downdraft models. Ignition modules, oven igniters, convection motors, probes and boards are typical.

JennAir parts and sourcing

We buy JennAir parts through Whirlpool's own parts business and the wholesalers it supplies. Because so much is common to KitchenAid and Whirlpool, mechanical parts are usually quick to get. Styling pieces, panels and certain boards made only for JennAir move slower, and some for older models are out of production. Orders go by model and serial number, and an equivalent part is only used after you've been told.

FAQ

JennAir Repair FAQ

Short answers to what people usually ask before a visit. Anything not covered can go in the notes when you book.

Didn't see your question?

Tell us the brand, model number and the symptom. A few things can be ruled out from a description; most faults need testing on site.

Whirlpool Corporation owns JennAir, and a large share of its models are engineered alongside KitchenAid and Whirlpool products, so parts often overlap.

Wash the metal grease filter before anything else. If draw is still weak, either the blower has lost strength or something is choking the duct between the cooktop and the outside cap, and we measure along the run to find which.

Floors, stone and panels get covered before work starts, and a unit only leaves its opening when the repair genuinely can't be done in place.

JennAir's own service, since repairs during the coverage period are arranged through the maker. After it lapses, call us.
