Smeg Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
People buy Smeg for the look, and the rounded, pastel FAB refrigerator is why many know the name at all. Inside, these are European appliances with European habits: flame-failure valves on every gas burner, oven cooling fans, filters you are expected to rinse by hand. We repair Smeg independently, not as one of its service centers, so an appliance still under Smeg's warranty should go to Smeg first. After that, we diagnose it in your kitchen and quote before starting.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model tag if you can find it, and what you're seeing or hearing. Codes help too.
Diagnosis at Home
At your place the technician checks the unit and its outlet, water supply, drain or vent to find the fault.
Quote Before Work
You hear the diagnosis and the price, and decide. If the repair isn't worth it, we'll tell you.
Repair and Test
With the part fitted, we run the appliance through a cycle while you're there to confirm the fix.

Enamel, metal and a 1950s silhouette
Vittorio Bertazzoni founded Smeg in 1948 in Guastalla, in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region; the name is an acronym for the enameling and metalworking company it started as, and the family still runs it. The FAB refrigerators arrived in 1997 and made the brand famous, but Smeg also builds ovens, ranges, cooktops, dishwashers, wine coolers and built-in microwaves.
In Tampa, Smeg tends to show up where someone wanted a kitchen with personality: renovated bungalows in Seminole Heights, older homes in Hyde Park, and compact condo kitchens Downtown and in the Channel District, where a FAB fridge or a Portofino range becomes the room's centerpiece.
Design decisions that change the repair
Every Smeg gas burner has a thermocouple flame-failure device, so you hold the knob in for a few seconds after lighting while the thermocouple warms. A burner that dies when released is usually that small part or its position, not the gas supply.
Smeg ovens run a cooling fan during and after cooking to protect the controls and cabinetry, and its whir after the oven is off is normal. Many FAB fridges let frost melt off the back wall into a small drain hole; when that hole clogs, water collects under the crisper drawers.
Getting parts from Italy
Routine Smeg parts such as thermocouples, igniters, elements, fans and gaskets usually come through Smeg's North American parts channel without much delay. Colored panels, trim, handles and less common electronic boards may have to ship from Italy. We check availability by model and serial number at the visit and give you a straight estimate of the wait.
Smeg appliance lines
- Refrigerators: FAB retro refrigerators and built-in models. Common calls: water pooling from a blocked rear drain, an iced-up freezer compartment, worn gaskets, thermostats and fans.
- Dishwashers: Built-in and fully integrated dishwashers. Usual repairs: slow draining from dirty filters, anti-flood lockouts, inlet valves, door springs and heating faults.
- Ovens: Smeg's built-in electric ovens and the oven cavities of its ranges. Calls include cooling fan faults, noisy convection fans, failed elements and temperature drift.
- Microwaves: Built-in microwaves and combination microwave ovens. Repairs usually involve a unit that won't heat, a faulty door interlock or a control panel that won't respond.
- Cooktops: Gas, induction and electric cooktops. Most calls are burners that go out when the knob is released, clicking igniters and induction zones that cut out.
- Wine Coolers: Undercounter and built-in wine coolers. Calls usually involve a zone running warm, fan noise and door seals that have flattened.
- Stoves: The cooktop half of a Smeg range, whether the retro Victoria or the pro-style Portofino. Typical complaints: burners that won't stay lit, nonstop clicking and a lopsided flame.
- Ranges: Dual-fuel, gas and induction ranges in several widths. Usual repairs: thermocouples, igniters, oven elements, cooling and convection fans, and door hinges.
Smeg parts and sourcing
Smeg parts come through its North American parts operation, which carries the usual repair items. Cosmetic panels, colored trim and some electronics may have to be shipped from Italy, which adds time. We confirm fit from the model and serial number and tell you a realistic arrival date before you decide.

Send us the make, the model tag and what the appliance is doing. Some problems can be narrowed down before anyone drives over; most need hands on the machine.
Each burner has a flame-failure device. Holding the knob lets the thermocouple heat up so it can keep the gas valve open on its own. If the burner still goes out after a good several seconds, the thermocouple likely needs attention.
The small drain hole on the back wall of the fresh-food compartment is probably blocked. Frost melts down the wall into that hole; when it clogs, water collects. Clearing the drain usually fixes it.
Common repair parts usually aren't. Colored panels, trim and certain electronic boards may ship from Italy, so expect those to take longer.
