Miele refrigerator design and construction
Built-in Miele refrigeration, MasterCool columns especially, hides the compressor and condenser behind a grille at the top or the toe kick. Everything depends on that grille breathing. A column boxed into cabinetry with the vent path blocked, or with coils matted by dust and pet hair, runs nonstop and still drifts warm, and in a Tampa kitchen where the air conditioning is working hard in August, that margin gets thin quickly. After airflow, the usual suspects are an evaporator fan that has stopped, a defrost heater or sensor that has failed and left the coil iced, and an ice maker water valve that no longer opens. The heavy custom panels on integrated doors also pull hinges out of adjustment over the years. We measure temperatures and check the grille and coils before going anywhere near the sealed system.
