Electrolux refrigerator design and construction
On many Electrolux French-door models the ice is made in a small insulated box on the left-hand fresh-food door. Freezer air reaches it through ducts that meet the door at a gasketed port, so if that port or the box's own little door stops sealing, warm air gets in: frost grows, cubes fuse into clumps and the auger stalls. Humid kitchen air speeds the whole process. Further back, the freezer's evaporator, fan and defrost heater behave the way most frost-free designs do, and a defrost failure warms the fresh-food side before the freezer shows it. The discontinued ICON columns run separate sealed systems and controls. We read where the frost has formed and take air temperatures in each compartment before naming a part.

That door-mounted ice box stays cold only while its seals hold. A leak at its small door, gasket or duct port lets the ice soften and refreeze into lumps. Those seals and the airflow are checked first, then the ice maker and auger motor.
Freezer air is not reaching the fresh-food side. Often the coil has frosted solid after a defrost failure; sometimes a fan or the damper has quit. We inspect the coil, the fan and the damper in that order.
