Miele cooktop design and construction
Most Miele cooktops are induction, with gas and radiant models alongside. An induction zone works only with magnetic cookware, and the power boards under the glass are cooled by a fan pulling air from the cabinet below. Drawers packed tight under the cooktop, or a cabinet with no air gap, starve that fan and the zones throttle back or shut off. Touch controls react to spills and to pans resting on the control strip. Miele gas cooktops use sealed burners with spark ignition and a flame-failure device that closes the gas if the flame goes out. Radiant tops rely on ribbon elements and limiters. A cracked glass top is generally replaced whole.

The power electronics cut back when they get too warm. A tired cooling fan or a cabinet with no air gap beneath the cooktop is the usual cause. We check the fan and the ventilation before testing the boards.
The flame-failure sensor needs a few seconds of heat before it keeps the gas valve open. A dirty sensor, one bent out of the flame, or one that's failing will close the gas when you release the knob. We clean it, set its position and test it.
