Viking Cooktop Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Viking has no connection to us, and we aren't one of its authorized repair centers. If your cooktop is still under Viking's factory warranty, start with Viking. After that coverage ends, send us the model number and what it's doing when you book; that lets us research parts before the visit.

Viking cooktop design and construction
Sealed burners and electronic spark ignition are standard on Viking rangetops and gas cooktops, and many models have an automatic reignition feature that sparks again when a flame is blown out. The system is reliable until liquid finds a spark switch behind a knob; then every burner clicks at once. A cracked ceramic electrode gives one burner a weak spark, or sends it to the wrong spot. Crooked caps and food-clogged ports make the flame lift off or burn lazy and yellow. The griddle and char-grill sections carry their own burner and thermostat, which can wander or refuse to light. The electric and induction cooktops share none of that hardware; they are about elements, induction coils, power boards and glass.
Common Viking cooktop failures
- Spark switch shorted by a spill
- Cracked electrode misfiring
- Cap off-center and flame uneven
- Griddle thermostat drifting
- Stiff surface burner valve

Didn't see your question?
Tell us the brand, model number and the symptom. A few things can be ruled out from a description; most faults need testing on site.
The spark is there, so we look at the burner itself: a cap not sitting flat, clogged ports or a cracked electrode sending the spark astray. If all of that checks out, gas flow to that burner is tested.
Usually. The griddle runs on its own burner, with a thermostat metering gas to it. If that thermostat is failing, the burner is clogged or the igniter is weak, the heat runs low or patchy. All three get tested before we pick a part.
