Maytag Cooktop Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Maytag has no connection to us, and we aren't one of its authorized repair centers. If your cooktop is still under Maytag's factory warranty, start with Maytag. After that coverage ends, send us the model number and what it's doing when you book; that lets us research parts before the visit.

Maytag cooktop design and construction
Maytag makes gas, radiant glass and induction cooktops. On gas units, a spark module feeds an electrode at each burner, and a small switch on each knob shaft triggers it; if one of those switches stays closed after a boil-over, the whole top keeps ticking. The larger Power Burner needs its cap seated right to light evenly. Radiant tops rely on infinite switches or a board to cycle each element, and a cracked top or a burned element is a regular call. Induction models only work with magnetic pans, so a quick magnet test comes before anything is opened. A coastal kitchen with salt in the air can corrode burner electrodes and spark wiring a little faster, which shows up as weak, irregular sparks.
Common Maytag cooktop failures
- Spark switch stuck, constant clicking
- Burner cap off-center, ragged flame
- Radiant element burned out
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Glass top cracked

Tell us the brand, model number and the symptom. A few things can be ruled out from a description; most faults need testing on site.
A single knob switch, often wet from a spill, is usually holding the circuit closed. Give a damp one time to dry. If the clicking continues, we locate the faulty switch and replace it instead of swapping the spark module.
Yes. The infinite switch for that element, or a stuck relay on a touch-control board, is the usual cause. We test which one before ordering.
