Hotpoint Cooktop Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Hotpoint has no connection to us, and we aren't one of its authorized repair centers. If your cooktop is still under Hotpoint's factory warranty, start with Hotpoint. After that coverage ends, send us the model number and what it's doing when you book; that lets us research parts before the visit.

Inside a Hotpoint cooktop
Since Hotpoint concentrates on freestanding stoves, finding one of its built-in cooktops is unusual. The ones that turn up are mostly basic electric coil units, with an occasional radiant glass model. Coil tops have a short list: an element whose sheath has burned through, a socket blackened where a loose terminal arced, or a burner control that no longer clicks on and off. Radiant tops put each heating ribbon under the glass with its own overheat limiter, so a ring that stays cold, or one that glows red at every setting, points to that ribbon or its control. Parts are mostly common with GE equivalents and easy to source. New glass can be ordered for certain models, but on an inexpensive cooktop its cost may not make sense.
Common Hotpoint cooktop failures
- Coil element burned through
- Socket blackened by arcing
- Burner control failed
- Radiant ribbon element open
- Glass surface cracked

The control behind that knob has welded its contacts shut. It's its own part, and swapping it doesn't take long.
Yes. Blackening usually starts where an element's prongs fit loosely. The socket gets replaced and the element is inspected too, since pitted prongs will ruin the new socket quickly.
