LG cooktop design and construction
LG makes induction, radiant and gas cooktops. Under an induction top, power boards energize the coils and a fan pulls air across the electronics; if the cabinet below is cramped or the fan fails, zones shut off partway through cooking. Radiant tops use ribbon elements with switches or touch controls and a hot-surface light, and a dead zone traces to the element, the control or a scorched terminal. Gas cooktops have sealed burners and spark ignition, and boil-overs that soak the burner base cause the clicking and slow lighting people call about. Replacing cracked glass means a new top assembly, priced as a whole. When a cooktop was dropped into an older counter cutout, we check the junction box and wire connections too.

Overheating is the usual reason. The electronics need airflow from below, and a blocked vent, a drawer jammed against the bottom, or a failing fan lets them get too hot. A pan that's too small or not magnetic can also stop a zone. We check airflow first.
Not safely. The glass top is replaced as an assembly. We give you that price so you can compare it to a new cooktop.
