Roper Cooktop Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Roper has no connection to us, and we aren't one of its authorized repair centers. If your cooktop is still under Roper's factory warranty, start with Roper. After that coverage ends, send us the model number and what it's doing when you book; that lets us research parts before the visit.

Inside a Roper cooktop
Most Roper electric cooktops run on plug-in coils, each controlled by an infinite switch that pulses power to hold the setting. A dead burner leaves three possibilities: the coil, the receptacle it plugs into, or the switch. Receptacles are frequent casualties because coils come out for cleaning and get pushed back halfway, which leads to arcing and scorching. Roper gas cooktops have sealed burners and spark ignition. A burner that keeps ticking after the flame is lit usually has water around its electrode from a spill or a wipe-down, and on a sticky summer day it can take a while to dry. A weak or ragged flame tends to be a clogged port or a cap that isn't seated. We confirm the failed part before ordering.
Common Roper cooktop failures
- Coil element not heating
- Receptacle scorched by a loose coil
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Gas igniter clicking nonstop
- Flame weak or uneven

Tell us the brand, model number and the symptom. A few things can be ruled out from a description; most faults need testing on site.
The coil, its receptacle or its switch. Trade the coil into a burner position that works (same diameter): if it still won't heat, the coil is bad; if it heats, look at the receptacle or switch.
Moisture around the igniter after cleaning or a boil-over is the common cause. If it continues once everything is dry, the ignition switch may have failed.
