Thermador freezer design and construction
Whether it's a Freedom freezer column or the bottom drawer of a built-in, a Thermador freezer defrosts itself several times a day using a heater clipped to the coil, a temperature sensor, and the main control deciding when to run. If any one of those fails, frost builds until air stops crossing the coil and the cabinet warms even while the compressor runs. Gaskets matter as much as parts. One with a gap draws in muggy room air, and frost comes back within days of clearing it. Columns with an ice maker also have a solenoid valve and a fill line, and that line can ice shut. A fan blade rubbing ice makes a noise owners often blame on the compressor. Where the frost sits on the coil points us to the part that quit.
