Maytag oven design and construction
Maytag wall ovens draw on Whirlpool's parts family, which helps with supply, even though the control panels and trim are Maytag's own. Most of what goes wrong is predictable. The concealed lower element fails open, the upper one splits at a hot spot, the sensor drifts so recipes come out under- or overdone, and a convection motor stops turning. Self-clean is hard on these ovens, and a door lock that will not release or a control board that fails right after a clean cycle is common. Some repairs are done from inside the cavity; boards, wiring and locks can mean sliding the oven forward onto a support. In a double oven, the healthy cavity often keeps working while the other is repaired.
