Miele freezer design and construction
In American kitchens a Miele freezer is usually built in, either a full-height column beside a refrigerator column or a pair of drawers under the counter. Neither ever needs manual defrosting, which means a coil, a fan, a heater, a sensor and the control all cooperate several times a day. If the heater or the sensor watching it fails, frost creeps across the coil until air stops moving and the cabinet warms while the compressor keeps going. Columns with ice makers add a water valve and a fill tube that can freeze shut. Drawers rely on their seals and slides; in humid weather a drawer that stops a quarter-inch short pulls in damp air, and the food at the front turns frosty within days. Where the frost sits on the coil usually points us to the failed part.

Air probably isn't getting past the coil. A failed defrost cycle or a stopped fan lets ice block the coil. We remove the rear panel, inspect the frost and test the heater, sensor and fan.
Humid room air is getting in, usually past a hardened gasket or because a slide is binding and the drawer isn't closing fully. We check the seal and slides before the cooling system.
