Vulcan Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Vulcan makes heavy gas and electric cooking gear for restaurants and institutions, and nearly everything that fails on it is a wear item: pilot assemblies, thermocouples, thermostats, burners, blowers, door hardware. We're an independent repair company, not a Vulcan service agent, so a unit that's still under warranty should be routed through Vulcan or the dealer that sold it.

Which Vulcan Appliance Needs Work?
An old stove maker, now part of ITW
Vulcan traces its history to a stove company started in 1865. Since the 1990s it has belonged to ITW Food Equipment Group, which also owns Hobart, and it builds restaurant ranges, convection ovens, griddles, charbroilers, fryers, steamers and kettles.
In and around Tampa, that equipment runs in neighborhood diners and Cuban sandwich counters, in sports bars with full kitchens, in hotel and banquet kitchens, and in school, church and hospital cafeterias. Plenty of it has worked the same line for a long time, which is the whole point of buying it.
Gas, flame and heat control
On a typical Vulcan range, small standing pilots light the top burners, and the oven has its own pilot watched by a thermocouple that holds a safety valve open. When that pilot keeps dying, the usual reasons are a partly blocked orifice, air from the hood or a back door pushing it around, or a thermocouple that has simply aged out. Oven thermostats on many models are mechanical and slowly lose accuracy, which can be corrected or fixed with a new one.
Convection ovens add a blower, door switches and either electronic ignition or a pilot. No blower means no proper heat, and on a lot of models a tired door switch is all it takes to keep the fan from turning.
Scheduling around service
Losing a range or oven mid-week forces menu changes, so after the diagnosis you'll know whether the work can be done with the rest of the line cooking and how long a part should take. Built-up grease and carbon cause many of these failures, and we'll mention any cleaning that would help prevent the next call.
Restaurant gear in a house
Now and then a homeowner puts a commercial range in a home kitchen. That equipment usually calls for particular clearances, hood ventilation and gas capacity, and it may not be approved for residential use. Our Vulcan service is aimed at commercial kitchens.
Vulcan appliance lines
- Ovens: Convection ovens and range-base ovens. Calls usually involve pilot or ignition trouble, a thermostat that has drifted, a blower motor or the door switch that controls it.
- Cooktops: Griddles and hot tops. Hot and cold spots across the plate, pilots that drop out and thermostats that won't hold are the common faults.
- Stoves: Open-burner range tops. Pilots that won't stay lit, burners that won't catch and soft yellow flames make up most service calls.
- Ranges: Restaurant ranges with open burners, griddle or hot-top sections and an oven below. Pilots, thermocouples, gas safety valves, thermostats and door hardware are the routine repairs.
Vulcan parts and sourcing
Vulcan parts move through the commercial foodservice parts distributors that serve restaurants. Thermocouples, pilot assemblies, burner heads, thermostats and blower motors are easy to find, while some parts for older units now ship under newer superseding numbers. Everything is confirmed against the model and serial plate, and you get the expected wait up front.
Vulcan visits are booked across Tampa and the wider Tampa Bay area; the list of areas and ZIP codes shows whether your street is covered.
Vulcan Repair FAQ
A few plain answers before you book. Details about your home or the appliance can go in the form's notes field.
Didn't see your question?
Send us the make, the model tag and what the appliance is doing. Some problems can be narrowed down before anyone drives over; most need hands on the machine.
The likely causes are a pilot orifice partly blocked with grease, a draft pushing the flame off the thermocouple, or a thermocouple that's worn out. The pilot gets cleaned and its flame checked, and the thermocouple's output gets measured.
Often, yes, if it's mechanical. The oven's true temperature gets measured first; a thermostat that's simply out of adjustment is reset, and one that's worn out is replaced.
Our Vulcan service is aimed at commercial kitchens. Restaurant equipment comes with installation requirements a house kitchen often can't meet.
