Scotsman Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Under the Scotsman name are two very different machines, and our first job on a call is figuring out which you own, since a cuber and an auger unit have almost nothing in common inside. We service both independently and aren't part of Scotsman's dealer network, so a machine still within the factory warranty should be claimed through Scotsman.

Which Scotsman Appliance Needs Work?
Cubes on a plate, or ice from an auger
Scotsman was founded in 1950 and is based in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Manitowoc sold it to the private equity firm Warburg Pincus in 2009, and Italy's Ali Group bought Scotsman Industries in a deal announced in late 2012.
Prodigy cubers grow ice on a chilled plate and release it in batches. The nugget and flake models never stop: inside a cold cylinder, a turning auger shaves ice off the wall and lifts it out the top, and nugget units then press it through a die into the soft pellets customers request by name. That's why so many Tampa cafés, drink shops, offices and clinics have one.
What wears out on an auger machine
Every turn of the auger puts load on a gearmotor, two bearings and the seal that keeps water out of the gearbox. Those parts are consumables over the life of the machine. Scale makes them wear faster, since the auger has to grind through a rough, mineral-lined cylinder.
You'll usually hear trouble before it stops: a squeak, a knock or a grinding noise from the top of the evaporator. Getting it looked at then can mean a bearing replacement instead of a new auger.
Planning a repair around service
No bar or kitchen can be without ice for long, so we schedule around your service hours where we can. Pulling an auger evaporator apart for bearings or a seal takes several hours, so have some bagged ice ready that day.
When we finish, you'll know whether the failure was normal wear or something regular cleaning would have avoided. In a hot back room, we also point out where better airflow around the condenser would help.

Scotsman parts and sourcing
Scotsman components reach us through restaurant-equipment parts houses. Bearings, seals and gearmotors for auger machines, plus pumps and sensors for cubers, are generally available. Evaporators and boards are matched to the serial plate, and certain parts for early nugget and flake machines have been renumbered. You'll hear during the visit whether the part is in stock and whether the machine can run until it shows up.
Scotsman visits are booked across Tampa and the wider Tampa Bay area; the list of areas and ZIP codes shows whether your street is covered.

Didn't see your question?
Describe what's happening and include the model plate if you can. We'll say what we can from that, and the rest gets checked at your home.
It's not a good idea for long. Grinding or squealing usually means worn bearings or an auger fighting scale, and the longer it runs, the more likely the auger and gearmotor get damaged too.
Both are auger machines, so much of the hardware does the same job. Nugget units add a compression head, which loads the bearings and gearmotor harder and makes scale more of a problem.
Same parent company, separate engineering. Parts don't generally cross between the two, so we order strictly by your machine's model and serial number.
