Scotsman Ice Maker Service for Houses, Condos and Rentals
Scotsman has no connection to us, and we aren't one of its authorized repair centers. If your ice maker is still under Scotsman's factory warranty, start with Scotsman. After that coverage ends, send us the model number and what it's doing when you book; that lets us research parts before the visit.
How an Ice Maker Repair Visit Works
Tell Us the Symptom
Note the temperatures if you have a thermometer, any frost or puddles, and the model number from inside the door.
In-Home Testing
We read coil and cabinet temperatures, check both fans and test the defrost parts before naming the fault.
A Price You Approve
We explain what failed and quote the repair. Nothing is done until you agree to the price.
Fix and Check
With the part fitted, we run the appliance through a cycle while you're there to confirm the fix.
Scotsman ice maker design and construction
Scotsman's nugget and flake units are built around a vertical auger turning inside a chilled steel tube. Ice forms on the cold wall and the auger carries it up; a flaker simply pushes it out, while a nugget unit packs it through a head into chewable pellets. Everything rides on the gearmotor and the top and bottom bearings, and a seal at the base stops water reaching the gearbox. Mineral buildup adds drag, and that is why noise and gearmotor trips so often show up together with scale. The Prodigy cuber has none of this hardware: it freezes ice on a flat plate and drops it in batches, and when it falters, look to scale, the water-level probe, or a condenser losing the fight with a hot back room. We confirm which type you have before going further.
Common Scotsman ice maker failures
- Squeal from worn upper auger bearings
- Gearmotor tripping on overload
- Leak at the bottom auger seal
- Scale crusted inside the evaporator tube
- Prodigy cuber harvesting slowly or not at all

Didn't see your question?
Tell us the brand, model number and the symptom. A few things can be ruled out from a description; most faults need testing on site.
Often the seal at the bottom of the auger, though blocked drains and loose fittings do it too. A leaking seal can let water into the gearmotor, so we replace it at the first sign.
Different machine, different causes. Without an auger, a Prodigy usually slows down because of scale on the plate, a grimy condenser, a sweltering room or weak water supply. Cleaning, airflow and water checks come before any refrigeration work.
